Kate Jimenez graduated from ILS as valedictorian of her 2002 class. While at ILS she was founder and president of the National Junior Honor Society and editor of the Eagle Beat newspaper.
She attended Riverview for her high school years graduating as valedictorian in 2006. Other services while in high school include president of the National Honor Society, vice-president of the Mu Alpha Theta math honor society, and captain of her swim and tennis teams. Kate received the honor of the Anne Frank Humanitarian Award from the Florida Holocaust Museum and was a Florida Key Scholar.
Kate received a full tuition scholarship to attend Vanderbilt University where she will graduate in spring of 2010 with a degree in Psychology and Spanish. In addition to her challenging academic schedule she was a mentor/tutor for two service organizations, a Spanish language tutor for Hispanic immigrants, a transfer student orientation leader, and participated in a fundraiser for the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital dance marathon. She was one of fifteen individuals of ethnic origin to receive the Chancellor’s Scholar for excellence in academics and service. During the summer of 2008 Kate volunteered in the rural/extremely impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic focusing on public health.
Kate’s goals are to teach in Chile during 2011, then return to the university to earn a PhD in Spanish language and translation. She would like to become a professor of Spanish or be a diplomat to Latin American countries.
